ELLENVILLE- National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. It honors the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. The mid-month start aligns with the independence days of several Latin American nations, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. There was a celebration in Ellenville last Friday where there was good food and entertainment.
Village Mayor Evan Trent was there. “Our little mountain village tucked away amongst the trees has somehow, someway become this incredible kaleidoscope of diversity.”
County Executive Jen Metzger said the county will protect the Hispanic community. “It is a really hard time for our Hispanic community, in particular in this country. But I want you to know that here in Ulster County, we love and appreciate you, and we will do our damnedest to protect you.”
