LIBERTY – It took Village of Liberty Police just six minutes to nab two robbery suspects following an afternoon assault.

A man said he was assaulted and robbed in the area of Academy Street with a silver-colored watch stolen.

Within minutes, Liberty Village Police sought the suspects and took them into custody. The watch was recovered.

Arrested following the September 17 incident were Aydan Burt, 18, and a 16-year-old boy, both Liberty residents.

They were charged with two counts of robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.

Burt was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 secured bond or $25,000 partially secured bond.

The teen was arraigned and released to the custody of his legal guardian pending future court proceedings.

“This arrest is an excellent example of the importance of a rapid and coordinated response by our officers,” Chief Steven D’Agata said. “Within just six minutes of this robbery being reported, officers had located both suspects, taken them safely into custody and recovered the victim’s stolen property. I commend the officers and detectives involved for their immediate response and thorough investigation. When a serious crime occurs in our community, every minute matters, and the work of our officers in this case demonstrates exactly why.”
