CORTLANDT- A stolen Audi from New Jersey was destroyed early Monday after crashing and catching fire in Cortlandt’s Continental Village section.
Nine-one-one calls to the Putnam Emergency Dispatch Center in Carmel alerted the Continental Village Fire Department of the fire along Route 202 also known as the Goat Trail, a narrow and winding road connecting the Annsville Traffic Circle to the Bear Mountain Bridge, with reports that the driver was possibly trapped inside.
Crews rushed to the scene, but the driver had fled before firefighters and police arrived.
State Police determined the vehicle had been stolen from the Garden State with the Orange Township Police Department investigating the theft.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters returned to quarters around 9 a.m.
