TARRYTOWN – Congressman Mike Lawler’s campaign responded to a campaign appearance by Democratic congressional candidate Cait Conley and former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg by sarcastically inviting several prominent Democrats to campaign in the Hudson Valley.
Conley appeared with Buttigieg at the Tarrytown Music Hall Wednesday night before a crowd of supporters. Buttigieg endorsed Conley and spoke about the congressional race.
Lawler (R, NY-17) campaign manager Ciro Riccardi invited U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer to join Conley on the campaign trail.
The campaign said the invitation followed Conley’s statement that she welcomes people to campaign with her in the district.
“Cait Conley spent last night on stage with the man who stuck Hudson Valley commuters with the congestion tax, so we figured we’d help her fill out the rest of the tour,” Riccardi said.
The reference was to Buttigieg’s tenure as transportation secretary under President Joe Biden. During his tenure, the federal government approved steps allowing New York to advance its congestion-pricing program.
A spokesperson for the Conley campaign did not return a message seeking comment for this story.

Lawler’s campaign also criticized the policies and positions of the Democratic officials it named, including on health care, immigration, policing, energy and congestion pricing.
“Bernie, AOC, Zohran, Kathy, Chuck: come on up,” Riccardi said. “Cait says she welcomes anyone, and we’d love for every voter in Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess to see exactly who she plans to vote with in Washington.”

Conley is challenging Lawler in the Nov. 3 election for the 17th Congressional District, which includes portions of Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties. It is one of the most competitive Congressional races in the country.
