SOUTHEAST- A couple from Poughkeepsie faces felony charges in Southeast following their arrests by the Putnam Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Brian Hess reported the arrests Friday of Dennis Bussanich, 45, and Karleen Carter, 37.

An investigation at the Home Depot in the Highlands Shopping Center off Route 84 led to the apprehensions after Hess said members of the Sheriff’s Office Conditions Unit observed Bussanich loading stolen merchandise into a vehicle in the parking lot of Home Depot.

Hess said deputies approached Carter, the vehicle’s driver, and saw drug paraphernalia inside the car. The investigation led to the recovery of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and Suboxone.

Bussanich was charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Grand Larceny, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and False Personation while Carter was arrested on charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to sell, and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia.

Both defendants were arraigned in Southeast Court. Bussanich was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility while Carter was released on her own recognizance pending future court appearances.

The top charges carry maximum 15-year state prison terms if found guilty.
