MOUNT VERNON – A prominent Mount Vernon youth basketball coach pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child under 13 over five months, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said.
Dwayne Murray, 63, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty Friday in Westchester County Court to first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a Class B violent felony.
Murray is expected to be sentenced Nov. 17 to 18 years in state prison followed by 20 years of post-release supervision. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors said Murray repeatedly subjected a girl under 13 to sexual conduct between Oct. 1, 2023, and March 1, 2024, in Mount Vernon, including at least one act of oral sexual conduct.
Murray was arrested May 14, 2025, after the District Attorney’s Office received a tip alleging child sexual abuse. The investigation included interviews with witnesses, the victim and Murray, as well as searches of electronic devices.
Authorities said sexually inappropriate text messages between Murray and the victim were found on the devices. Murray also admitted his involvement during an interview with investigators.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Kontos and Special Prosecutions Division Co-Chief Christine Hatfield.
