POUGHKEEPSIE – A driver heading west on Columbus Drive (westbound arterial) attempted to turn onto Main Street from the center lane on Thursday evening, forcing a car in another lane off the road and into a building at the corner of Main Street and Columbus Drive, causing significant damage.  The accident closed a portion of both roads just before 7 pm.

The driver of the car that slammed through the front of 220 Main Street was extricated by City of Poughkeepsie firefighters and was transported to a local hospital by EMS for treatment.

The area remained closed to traffic until a City of Poughkeepsie Building Inspector arrived and determined it was safe to remove the vehicle from the Freeway Insurance storefront.

City of Poughkeepsie cops were investigating the wreck.
