TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Town of Wallkill police officer helped save the life of an 82-year-old woman who was choking on a piece of candy Tuesday evening at Bob’s Discount Furniture.
Officer Heather Dunnigan responded to the store at 88 Dunning Road at about 7:08 p.m. and arrived less than a minute after the initial dispatch.
Dunnigan found the woman actively choking and immediately provided medical assistance, ultimately removing the obstruction.
The woman was turned over to Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services and transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for further evaluation. She was conscious and alert and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said Dunnigan’s quick recognition of the emergency and immediate actions were instrumental in saving the woman’s life.
