MONTICELLO – A 32-year-old Monticello man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a burglary at a Broadway restaurant in which about $100 and a religious statue were stolen, police said.

Skyler J. Madura was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

Monticello police Officer Darek Tyminski was on patrol shortly before 1 a.m. Friday when he discovered the front glass door of Memito’s Tacos and Deli at 493 Broadway had been broken, police said.

Surveillance video showed a man breaking the door with a hatchet before crawling inside and taking about $100 in cash and a religious statue from the counter, according to police.

At about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, Tyminski was on patrol when he saw Madura behind another Broadway business and recognized him as the suspect in the burglary, police said. Madura was arrested without incident.

Madura was issued an appearance ticket under New York’s bail reform laws and is scheduled to appear Oct. 5 in Monticello Village Justice Court.
