MAHOPAC – A Massachusetts man awaits extradition to Delaware to answer charges in connection with theft offenses following his arrest by Carmel Police.
Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann said Canine Officer Vincent DeSantola was on patrol when he spotted a Toyota sedan with an equipment violation in Mahopac.
According to the chief, the driver, Ronald Ramirez-Rivas, 25, of Roxbury, did not have a driver’s license while giving the officer a fictitious name.
Police said a records check found an active arrest warrant for Ramirez-Rivas issued by the Delaware State Police. Authorities in the “First State” confirmed the warrant and said they intended to seek extradition.
Ramirez-Rivas was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice. He was also charged with false personation and cited for vehicle and traffic violations, including operating a motor vehicle without a license.
After arraignment, he was remanded to the Putnam Correctional Facility to await Delaware authorities.
Carmel Police were aided by a Spanish-speaking deputy from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
