HUDSON VALLEY – Every September, Feeding America, the hunger relief organization, marks September as Hunger Action Month, which is a nationwide push to raise awareness and take a stand against food insecurity. Whether it’s donating, volunteering at a local food bank, wearing orange, or using your voice to advocate, every action counts.

Barry Lewis is the spokesperson for the Regional Food Bank, said they are doing something unique. “For the first time ever, the regional food bank is bringing our community together for a 24-hour volunteer-a-thon. That’s going to be an around-the-clock effort to make a difference for our neighbors in need.”

He said the volunteers will only have to sign up for two hours during the marathon.

“We’re already seeing folks lining up, signing up for various hours,” he said. “We’re seeing civic groups, school groups, businesses. Really, the volunteer-a-thon, along with, obviously, the help, I think it helps educate people as to what we do.”
