POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Legislature recognized Hunger Action Month and primarily the Dutchess County Food Access Network for their combined efforts to address food insecurity in the county. Legislator Lisa Kaul presented the proclamation to raise awareness of the urgency of the food crisis and reaffirm the county’s commitment to providing everyone with reliable access to nutritious food.
Legislator Kaul noted that rising costs for food, housing, utilities, childcare, and transportation are significantly affecting the growing number of people experiencing food insecurity.
Dutchess County Food Security Council Chairperson Renee Fillette, who also serves as Dutchess Outreach Executive Director, was one of those recognized on Monday. “I’m so thrilled to be among the many organizations to receive this proclamation because it recognizes the power of what we can accomplish when we work together,” she told Mid-Hudson News.
“Through the Dutchess County Food Access Network, we bring together food pantries, farmers, nonprofits, community organizations, government partners, volunteers, businesses and so many others who care deeply about making sure our neighbors have access to the food they need. We know that the challenges around food insecurity are complex, and there is no single solution. Together, we can share ideas, learn from one another and innovate new solutions that strengthen our local food system and reach more people with greater dignity. This proclamation is a wonderful recognition of that collective effort—and a reminder that, working together, we can build a healthier, more food-secure Dutchess County for everyone.”
