KINGSTON – The work to install Uptown signboards on 22 storefronts on North Front Street and Wall Streets in Kingston to replace the temporary water/ice shield and finish the facades where the Pike Plan was previously attached beings this week.
Gallo Construction will begin the work at 302 Wall Street and move to 304, 310, 322, and 326 Wall Street. Each storefront will take about two days to complete with work expected to be finished by the end of October.
Mayor Steven Noble said the contractors will maintain storefront and residential access at all times throughout the construction, and the work should not impede sidewalks. “I know we are all ready to replace the black plastic seal on our historic Uptown buildings and see this architecture and the entire Stockade area shine,” he said.
After the Pike Plan canopies were removed, the city gave settlements to property owners for repairs to their facades. The city also provided property owners with the options to have the city provide a signboard to the area where the canopy was attached.
The city also awarded 13 to Stockade Business District property owners for signage and awnings.
To date, the planning office has fast-tracked 36 projects for properties along North Front and Wall streets.
