PEEKSKILL- Former Governor George Pataki has been diagnosed with a lung disease linked to exposure to toxins from 9/11.
Pataki, a resident of Garrison, served as the state’s chief elected official from 1995 to 2006 and spent countless days at Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks 25 years ago.
Pataki, 81 is suffering from restrictive airway disease, which can cause coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, and wheezing.
Pataki said he was fortunate not to have been diagnosed with cancer.
Pataki thanked residents for their concern, adding that attention should focus on “the extraordinary men and women who answered the call that day and, in the weeks, and months that followed. Twenty-five years later, many are still living with the consequences of what they did for New York and for America. Our obligation is not simply to thank them once a year; it is to stand with them for the rest of their lives.”
