PUTNAM COUNTY- From Carmel to Cold Spring, residents of Putnam County paused and reflected Friday over the peace and security of our nation, shattered by terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001.

Large crowds gathered at the Carmel Cornerstone Park in the county seat for Putnam’s annual 9/11 memorial ceremony when Putnam’s eight men of valor were remembered along with the other Putnam residents and the thousands of others who have died or remain sick as a result of the aftermath of the attacks, from breathing in the toxic air during the immediate aftermath.

Sadly, the names of seven Putnam residents who have recently passed away from 9-11 related illnesses were added to the monument.

Each of the Heroes families was presented with a flag of the United States which was flown over the World Trade Center Memorial.

Ceremonies also took place in each of Putnam’s six towns in addition to the 4th annual Youth-Led 9/11 Memorial at the Bureau of Emergency Services headquarters in Carmel.
