MONTICELLO – There are pros and cons to the sale and use of kratom, with area counties banning or restricting it.
Sullivan County is expected to be the next to ban it.
County Coroner Albee Bockman said it is a dangerous drug.
“It has not been approved for any medical use. Its use has risks of addiction, abuse, seizures, liver damage and heart risk. It has been listed as a drug of concern,” he said. “It’s sold in convenience stores, gas stations, smoke shops, in vaping paraphernalia and other items. Many states throughout our nation have banned or restricted its use.”
Legislature Chairwoman Nadia Radjz said county lawmakers will be taking up the issue of banning its sale in the coming months.
