POUGHKEEPSIE – Preliminary approval for financial incentives to build a 249-apartment complex at 1269 Route 9G in the Town of Hyde Park has been approved by the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency.

Crofton Mews, a project by O’Neill developers, is seeking a 10-year payment in lieu of taxes, and exemptions on mortgage filing fee and sales tax on building materials for the $83 million project.

Company spokeswoman Lauren O’Neill said it is a large site – over 55 acres.

“It has a 23.5-acre resource protection area that will stay in its natural state permanently, 9.5 acres of that are nesting habitat of the Blandings turtle, which is a state-listed threatened species, and we will be funding and monitoring that for 20 years,” she said.

A public hearing will be held next followed by a final vote by the IDA board.
