NANUET – State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie was in Rockland County on Thursday, and he brought with him $2.8 million for volunteer ambulance corps.
Volunteer ambulance corps provide a “very vital service” to the community.

“I think we need to take a longer look at how EMS services are provided,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “Even in (New York) City, as important as they are, they are not very field, so I think we can do a better job to let people understand what a vitally important service that we need to provide the resources for.”
While in Rockland County, Heastie announced $380,000 to the Thiells Fire Department to replace their search and rescue equipment destroyed in an accident; $950,000 for renovations to an affordable housing project in the Nyack General Fire Protection Company 2 district’ $525,000 to the Congers Ambulance Corps; $415,000 to the New City Ambulance Corps; $375,000 to the Haverstraw Ambulance Corps; and $190,000 to the Nanuet Ambulance Corps.
“Our emergency professionals are on the front lines every day, and I will continue working to make sure they have the resources, support, and tools they need to keep our communities safe,” said Assemblyman Carroll.
