GARRISON – Two years ago this week, Putnam County marked a milestone: the groundbreaking for Hudson Valley Shakespeare’s new stage and redesigned campus.

More than a hundred people gathered on top of a bluff that once served as a golf course at the Garrison Country Club, majestically overlooking Storm King Mountain and the Hudson River, to welcome a new era of theater arts to the area including Governor Kathy Hochul who called the site “the most exceptional place of its kind on earth.”

Now, 730 days later, for the first time, Hudson Valley Shakespeare has sold out the remaining shows of its 2026 season, which includes As You Like It, King Lear and Les Misérables.

After nearly 40 years in a seasonal tent, Hudson Valley Shakespeare opened its new theater in June and has drawn large crowds since.

The season ends on September 27 with a performance of Les Miz, which has not been available to regional productions until this year because of a national tour, while Shakespeare’s plays end the week of September 13.
