MID-HUDSON – Thousands of Hudson Valley students returned to class Wednesday as the 2026–27 school year began.

Students from kindergarten through high school have begun an educational journey that will conclude next June.

Some of the youngest children were greeted at the Putnam County Early Learning Center, which is bringing preschool and therapeutic services closer to Putnam families.

The Putnam County Early Learning Center began offering services from its Hudson Valley Inter-Arts building in Patterson last fall. The seven-room facility, operated by nonprofit Community Based Services in collaboration with the Putnam County Health Department and Brewster and Carmel schools, offered educational and daycare programming for students and their families to encourage public awareness and expanded access to services for children with special needs.

The school has since become the Putnam Early Learning Center & Preschool, serving 23 students in its first year and expecting to double enrollment while expanding access to critical early intervention and preschool services for Putnam families.
