KINGSTON – The Kingston Common Council, upon a recommendation from Mayor Steve Noble, approved a memorandum of agreement with the city’s PBA union.

The new labor pact gives members a 3.75 percent raise per year, or a 15 percent overall pay hike through the duration of the four-year agreement from Jan. 1, 2026 to Dec. 31, 2029.

The common council also approved an amendment to the tax code giving for permanently disabled veterans a 100 percent exemption. Following that change to the tax code, the common council approved to raise senior citizen property tax exemption.

The increased tax exemptions follows legislation signed Gov. Kathy Hochul that allows municipalities to do so. The exemptions are based on income from $46,999 and less annually for a 65 percent downward to an extra five percent exemption for those earning $57,500 to $ 58,399 per year.
