NEWBURGH – When school opens in the Newburgh school district on Thursday, high school students attending Newburgh Free Academy who attend the new Career and Technical Center will have a hands-on experience to shape their future employment.

Officials cut the ribbon on the new 132,000 square foot building behind NFA Main on Monday.

The new education center will teach not only traditional trades, but computer coding, video production, graphic arts and other 21st center careers.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jacking Manning Campbell said for many students, their participation in the program has already begun.

“The students have been a part of it the entire time because the trades folks have made sure the students have been there along the process,” she said. “I’ve never seen anything like that because the students have signed the beams, they’ve been there for the photography, they’ve been there for drones, they’ve been part of the construction, the welding, so this is an opportunity they have never seen before in their lives,” she said. “They’ll never forget it.”

Dr. Manning Campbell said it is a goal of the school district for the students in the varied programs to remain in the community once they complete their educational experience.
