KINGSTON – The City of Kingston will award the bid for the signboard construction work to repair 22 storefronts on North Front and Wall Streets, which will replace the temporary water/ice shield and finish the façades on affected buildings.

The project, which will repair the area where the Pike Plan canopy was previously attached to the building, will be awarded to Gallo Construction. Work is expected to begin in September and be completed by the end of October.

“We are pleased to make this award, after an unsuccessful round of bidding that delayed the signboard project getting started,” Mayor Steven Noble said. “Now that we have a contractor in place, all involved will be moving quickly to get this work going. Though we are behind the original schedule, we are committed to getting this work done expeditiously. We know everyone is ready to see Uptown Kingston in all its glory, and we thank everyone for their patience.”

After the Pike Plan removal, the city gave settlements to property owners for repairs to their facades. The city also provided property owners with the option to have the city provide a signboard to the area where the canopy was attached.

In addition to the settlements and the offer for signboard work, Kingston awarded 13  to Stockade Business District property owners for signage and awnings. All applicants were awarded. To date, the planning office has fast-tracked 36 projects for properties along North Front and Wall Streets.

Property owners choosing to move forward with their own façade restoration work will have the support of the City of Kingston’s Planning Office with historic design resources that follow Historic Landmark Preservation Commission (HLPC) .
