RHINEBECK – The Soho House membership club is seeking financial incentives from the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency to develop a $200 million membership resort at the former on Mill Road in Rhinebeck.

Company officials Wednesday brought their request for a 10-year payment in lieu of taxes, sales tax exemption and mortgage tax exemption on the project which would see remodeling of existing buildings and construction of new ones that would be available for rent by any of the 200,000 members in the hospitality resort club, said project spokesman Kurt Evans.

“We are looking at numerous unique venues, a lot of which centers around architectural history and significance and preserving that and understanding the story of that building is a story worth celebrating, and so we like to inhabit those types of structures and Grasmere is no different,” he told IDA board members.

The board approved a preliminary resolution with the next step being a public hearing before it comes back to the board for its disposition.

Construction would use over 1,100 workers, and when in operation, over 1,400 employees would be hired.
