Dedication ceremony

BREWSTER- A forcibly entry training door used by emergency responders in extrication drills now bears the name of two fallen members of the Brewster Fire Department.

The equipment was unveiled at fire department headquarters during a dedication ceremony attended by firefighters from across the county and family members of the late William “Billy” May and Robert “Link” Linkenhoker.

Brewster FD Chief Steve Smith remembered May as a “can do; get it done type person. He was never afraid to step up and train. He always wanted to leave this place better than how he found it.”

When recalling Linkenhoker, the chief said: “Link was one of our first ‘rescue guys’ who was someone who took great pride in forcible entry and extrication.”

Funding for the equipment came from the department’s annual memorial motorcycle ride, with most of the money provided by the Charlie Fowler Memorial Fund.

Fowler was a past captain of the Brewster Fire Department.

Smith added: “We miss these fine men everyday,

but their legacies will live on forever especially when you combine Billy’s drive to practice, Link’s rescue expertise, and Charlie’s generosity.”
