POUGHKEEPSIE –The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) Board of Education on Wednesday night approved a resolution terminating Superintendent Gregory Mott’s contract with the PCSD on February 26, 2027, pursuant to the “without cause” provision of the employment contract he signed on May 7, 2025. .
Board President Jamar Coummings emphasized that the action is a contractual employment decision related to a leadership transition and the formation of a new governance team for the District.
The decision, according to Cummings, “Reflects our responsibility as a Board to consider the long-term leadership needs of the Poughkeepsie City School District,” and added, “We recognize that leadership transitions are significant, particularly in a school district, and we are committed to ensuring stability for our students, families, faculty, and staff throughout this process.”
Mott was appointed superintendent on July 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Eric Rosser. Prior to joining the district in 2020, he spent several years as an assistant principal and principal in the Buffalo City School District.
. In July 2025, after being promoted from assistant superintendent for elementary education, the Poughkeepsie Public School Administrators Association (PPSAA) held a vote of no confidence in Mott and presented the results to Board of Education President Bob Creedon on July 15, 2025.
Administrators voiced concerns over Mott’s efforts to create a new human resources position, raise the salary of another district office employee, and alter the teacher evaluation process. Dr. David Scott, a PPSAA member, told the board that creating the new position while removing observation responsibilities was contradictory.
Mott’s three-year contract expires on June 30, 2028. His annual salary is $240,531.79 through 2026.
Mott holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Buffalo, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration and Supervision. He began his career as a middle school social studies teacher in Buffalo, later serving as supervisor of Pupil Personnel Services, assistant principal, and principal at various schools in the Buffalo district.
Mott did not respond to a Mid-Hudson News request for comment and hastily exited the building at the conclusion of the board meeting, without speaking to the media or board members.
