Poughkeepsie firefighters rush to call on street known for suspicious fires

POUGHKEEPSIE – Just before 10 p.m. Friday, the Poughkeepsie Fire Department responded in force to a call of an odor of gas on a city street that has had several house fires that were considered suspicious.  Firefighters responded to a house on High Street, between Garden and North Hamilton Streets, Friday night after 911 received a report of a gas odor.

Firefighters arrived, investigated the call, and determined that an unattended pot of water had boiled over, extinguishing the gas flames on the stove, allowing the gas to spread to a small area of the house.

Windows were opened, and the gas was dissipated before the firefighters climbed back aboard their rigs and returned to service
