POUGHKEEPSIE — The Poughkeepsie City School District Board of Education is set to vote tonight (Wednesday} on whether to terminate its contract with Superintendent Gregory Mott, according to district officials. The proposed resolution, if approved, would end Mott’s employment effective Feb. 26, 2027, under the “without cause” provision in his contract.
Mott was appointed superintendent on July 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Eric Rosser. Prior to joining the district in 2020, he spent several years as an assistant principal and principal in the Buffalo City School District.
Mott has faced criticism from educators and administrators during his tenure. In July 2025, just two weeks after being promoted from assistant superintendent for elementary education, the Poughkeepsie Public School Administrators Association held a vote of no confidence in Mott and presented the results to Board of Education President Bob Creedon on July 15, 2025.
Administrators voiced concerns over Mott’s efforts to create a new human resources position, raise the salary of another district office employee, and alter the teacher evaluation process. Dr. David Scott, a PPSAA member, told the board that creating the new position while removing observation responsibilities was contradictory.
Mott’s three-year contract is set to expire June 30, 2028. His annual salary is $240,531.79 through 2026.
Mott holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Buffalo, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration and Supervision. He began his career as a middle school social studies teacher in Buffalo, later serving as supervisor of Pupil Personnel Services, assistant principal, and principal at various schools in the Buffalo district.
