POUGHKEEPSIE – Gunfire in the area of South Hamilton Street in the City of Poughkeepsie at around 12:15 a.m. on Monday brought police to the area as they were investigating an unrelated call.

There officers found an occupied house had been struck by gunfire.

Several shell casings were located and through investigation, Amir Thigpin, 20, was located and taken into custody.

A loaded .45 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered.

Thigpen was charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm.

The case remains under investigation.
