PEARL RIVER – The State Liquor Authority has suspended the liquor license of Hudson West Sports Bar LLC at 50 East Center Avenue in Pearl River after it was found to have served liquor to underage people on two consecutive nights.

The emergency action was taken following an August 7 joint investigation by the SLA, State Department of Motor Vehicles and Orangetown Police.

Some 70 to 100 patrons were inside the bar with only 12 confirmed to be 21 or older, while at least 60 were under 21.

SLA investigators allegedly saw bartenders selling alcohol to four minors and obtained signed statements from 13 minors admitted they consumed alcohol inside the bar.

Several of the patrols were only 16 and 17.

The following day the bar held another event and at 12:44 a.m. on August 9, police responded to a medical emergency and found a 16-year-old girl unconscious and severely intoxicated. She was taken to Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

“The evidence presented to the Authority alleges an alarming and continuing failure to protect underage patrons,” said SLA Chairwoman Lily Fan. “When a 16-year-old is hospitalized just one night after a major enforcement uncovered widespread underage drinking, immediate action is necessary to protect public health and safety.”

The SLA will promptly prosecute the charged with a maximum penalty of license revocation.
