NEWBURGH – When a severe lightning strike blew up electrical systems across the Mid-Hudson a little over a week ago, the Newburgh city water filtration plant was one such system that took a hit.
As a result, Interim City Manager Jason Morris said the water plant was affected
“On the afternoon of Saturday, August 8, the city’s drinking water filtration plant was damaged by a lightning strike,” he said. “The lightning strike damaged several electronic devices that typically provide automated control of several plant operations. The water superintendent responded to the scene and brought in several water department staff along with a control specialist to assess the damage. Once the full damage assessment was made, the county health department was notified of the issue and water department staff took over manual control of the damaged automated functions of the plant.”
Morris said there was no disruption of water service to city residents.
New parts were ordered and installed within a matter of a few days.
