CARMEL – A head-on crash on Route 52 in Lake Carmel sent two 36-year-old men to Danbury Hospital with serious trauma.

Kent Police Chief Kevin Owens reported Tuesday the 10:30 p.m. crash occurred when a resident of Brewster operating a pickup truck heading southbound crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a Honda van driven by a resident of Cornwall.

Nine-one-one calls sent members of the Lake Carmel Fire Department, Kent EMS, Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and two Putnam Empress paramedics to the scene.

Police did not release the victims’ names. Both were triaged at the scene, taken to the hospital, and admitted.

Chief Owens said the investigation into the near-fatal crash was continuing with summonses pending.

Route 52 remained closed for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigators completed their work.
