BREWSTER – One of former President Joe Biden’s final pronouncements was to recognize 336 educators from across the United States with Presidential Awards for Excellence.

Brittany Kozlenko, a physics teacher at Brewster High School, was one of only six teachers from New York State so honored.

Kozlenko was notified Monday that she had been selected as a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms participant, a selective program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

Kozlenko will participate in a semester-long course on best practices in global education.  Once she passes the course, the veteran educator will travel to Washington, D.C. in February for a global symposium prior to traveling to a country outside the U.S. in 2027.

Throughout the year Kozlenko will be working on a capstone that will be presented at the end of the program.

Brewster School District officials described the honor as an “incredible opportunity and an even more impressive recognition.”

When recognized by former President Biden, Kozlenko praised educators’ daily efforts to share their passion with students.

“We continually look for better ways to engage students and make learning more meaningful. Awardees want to make STEM education better, not just for their own students, but for all students,” she said.

Kozlenko has been a teacher at Brewster High School for the past 20 years. She has taught 9th-12th grade Advanced Placement Physics, along with introductory physics classes and robotics electives throughout her tenure by using a variety of ways to engage students, constantly fine tuning her pedagogy.
