NEWBURGH – The dock at Newburgh Landing, built in 1976, collapsed years ago, and the city has secured funding to construct a new one on the Hudson River.
Mayor Torrance Harvey said there is one hitch right now, the State Department of Environmental Conservation wants the new dock to be on a smaller scale.
Harvey is hoping to get the permits to build it as planned so that the city’s deep-water port can be put to use
“I’ve got cruise ship lines companies ready to do business with the city so we can get folks from here to the Caribbean, no problem,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “From here to New York City is a cakewalk if we get this City of Newburgh landing dock constructed.”
The pier constructed 50 years ago was built to accommodate the state’s Bicentennial Barge.
