WASHINGTON – Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) received a 99.2 out of 100 and an “A” grade in the latest Bridge Grades report card, a bipartisan ranking that evaluates members of Congress on collaborative governing.
Bridge Grades, a nonpartisan project of the Mediators Foundation, scored lawmakers based on legislative actions and public statements through June 30 during the 119th Congress. According to the report, only five of the 424 House members evaluated received higher scores than Lawler, whose rating was the highest among New York’s congressional delegation.
The organization places greater emphasis on legislative actions than rhetoric. Co-leading legislation with a member of the opposite party carries three times the weight of a bipartisan public statement, while cosponsoring legislation introduced by a member of the opposing party counts twice as much.
The latest ranking follows previous bipartisan recognition for Lawler. Bridge Grades’ April report ranked him seventh in the House, while the Lugar Center and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy ranked him the fourth-most bipartisan House member during the 118th Congress. The Center for Effective Lawmaking also named him the most effective freshman member of the 118th Congress after several of his bills advanced through Congress.
