WHITE PLAINS – A 40-year-old resident of Lake Mohegan will be spending the next 24 years in a federal prison for dealing fentanyl that contributed to the death of a Putnam Valley resident five years ago.
U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth Karas imposed the sentence on Perry Freeman this week in White Plains after the northern Westchester resident pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl, conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of ammunition.
Authorities said in November 2021, Brian Cobb purchased the illegal drug from Freeman before ingesting it at a friend’s home.
Cobb got into his car and started the ignition before passing out with his foot on the accelerator. Investigators determined the vehicle became so hot that it ignited killing the lone occupant.
An autopsy ruled his death as acute fentanyl intoxication.
In court it was revealed that Freeman had been selling fentanyl for months to a confidential informant working with an undercover investigator and according to the criminal complaint after the Putnam man’s death, he sold the drug two additional times to the informant.
