KINGSTON – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office has a policy as to when police chases should be ended for the safety of all involved, and now, the county will consider codifying it for all police departments.
County Legislator Kathy Nolan says they would like to codify the sheriff’s policy for all county law enforcement.
“It will save lives to have people operating in this fashion, and there are ways to apprehend the people that need to be apprehended that are much safer, and the sheriff’s department works on those as part of this policy,” she said.
By making the policy law for all police departments in the county, it will make policing safer as often times, high-speed chases end in crashes and injuries or death, officials say.
