6th Ward Councilman Christopher Grant

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City Councilman who was arrested last year following the Caribbean Festival that he sponsors at Waryas Park turned himself in to police on Monday on new charges.   Sixth Ward Councilman Christopher Grant held his annual waterfront festival on Saturday and was allegedly involved in an incident with a woman following the event, leading to domestic violence charges against him.

Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that the woman filed a complaint with the Town of Poughkeepsie police late Saturday night, stating that Grant had physically harmed her during a dispute.

The police were unable to locate Grant, who subsequently surrendered to town police on Monday.

Grant has been charged with the felonies of assault, burglary, strangulation, and unlawful imprisonment along with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.  He was arraigned in justice court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or $300,000 partially-secured bond.

Councilman Grant did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.
