WASHINGTON – With the midterm elections months away, Hudson Valley Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) is calling for term limits for both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Ryan said there should be limits on the number of terms just like some counties – including Putnam, Ulster and Westchester – that have them on their county legislatures and county executives.

“I think it is one of the most important reforms that we need in the system,” he said. “I have been a vocal supporter of term limits. In fact, when I was county executive in my prior job in Ulster County, the first bill I signed was I term limited myself. So, I think that is very important in our democracy.”

At present, House members serve an unlimited number of two-year terms and senators serve six-year terms with no limits.
