NEWBURGH – Residents of the Newburgh Housing Authority-owned Mullins and Fogarty apartments in the City of Newburgh are in deplorable condition, the chairwoman of the authority says and repairs and upgrades are needed.
Veronica Artist also told Mid-Hudson News that they are dangerous with gunfire during all hours of the day and night.
She has been pushing the board to replace the executive director, Lawrence Jackson, but it remains deadlocked over the issue.
“It is the board’s duty to stand up and say enough is enough to say we need new management here, and I own that as the chairperson. It is the board’s responsibility,” she said.
Jackson has taken four- to six-week medical leave, said Artist, who said conditions in some apartments are so bad that they have been condemned.
