CARMEL- Ideal weather conditions resulted in thousands flocking to the Putnam Veterans Memorial Park Saturday for the county’s annual Country Fest 4-H event.

Parking was scarce because of the large turnout, and Gipsy Trail Road—the narrow, winding two-lane road leading to the park—resembled Route 684 at rush hour, with cars backed up for a mile.

A wide variety of activities available for people of all ages, from children’s games and pony rides for toddlers while gardening tips, learning first aid and CPR and an a variety of environmental activities kept adults busy for hours.

Members of 4-H organizations displayed their animals and activities. Master Gardeners answered questions for those with a green thumb.

Seamstress Joan Newman, affectionately refereed to as “Putnam Queen of Quilts,” instructed people of all ages the art of quilt making.

For those enjoying motor vehicles, a huge car show allowed car enthusiasts to browse among a variety of classics ranging from a 1926 “woody vegetable truck” to hot rods of modern times.

The fair continues today at the park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
