MONTICELLO- The Sullivan County Youth Bureau is accepting applications for a new round of state-funded grants to support programs serving children and young people throughout the county.
Funding is provided through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and is available through three grant categories: Youth Development, Youth Sports and Education, and Youth Team Sports.
The grants are open to private nonprofit organizations, schools, and municipalities that provide programs for young people in Sullivan County. Eligible programs must promote positive youth development and serve participants under age 21, or younger depending on the funding category.
State officials encourage applicants to develop programs focused on civic engagement, education, physical and emotional health, family support, anti-human trafficking initiatives, and economic security. Sports funding is available for a broad range of organized physical activities, including traditional team sports, dance, yoga, hiking, and other fitness programs.
Priority will be given to organizations serving historically under-resourced and marginalized communities, including neighborhoods with higher poverty rates, homelessness, crime, or lower-performing schools.
Youth Team Sports funding may be used for coaches and instructors, direct-service staff, equipment purchases, facility or field rentals, capital improvements, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). These programs must serve youth under 18 living in under-resourced communities.
A new requirement has been added this year. All organizations seeking funding must attend one of two mandatory virtual information sessions before submitting an application. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. and Wednesday, July 29, at 6 p.m. Attendance is required, and organizations that do not participate in one of the sessions will not be eligible to apply.
Applications, funding guidelines, and additional information are available through the Sullivan County Youth Bureau website.
