MIDDLETOWN – Three unmarked cars occupied by ICE agents pulled up on Cottage Street in Middletown early Tuesday morning, scaring a youngster on his way to summer school and Mayor Joseph DeStefano said you could see the fear in the boy’s eyes.

The mayor said he was apparently not detained, but DeStefano’s concern is that city police were not notified that agents were in the city.

“I think we have to speak out for the people who live in our community – not that we haven’t, we continue to do so – but to be a little bit more vocal. We joined in with the Chester opposition to the ICE facility, and I joined in on the Newburgh, and hopefully you will also,” the mayor told the common council.

DeStefano said he would hope the common council would join him and formally object to a reported ICE facility planned in the Town of Newburgh.
