MONTICELLO – For many years the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has conducted a community outreach program known as “Coffee with the Sheriff”. The program, which is held from time to time at different locations around the county, encourages the public to stop by and have a friendly cup of coffee with Sheriff Mike Schiff and his deputies while, discussing local law enforcement issues within the community.
This Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office will be doing something unique. The regular “Coffee with the Sheriff”, which is being held in Roscoe, is being combined with an adoption event by the Catskill Animal Rescue, a local non-profit shelter.
“We are trying to raise awareness regarding our county’s cat and dog population and the fact that there are many great pets looking for a forever home”, said the Sheriff. “The well being of our county’s animals is an important concern”.
Over the years, the Sheriff’s Office has sponsored spaying, neutering and rabies vaccination clinics, as well as humane law enforcement training for local police agencies.
”Sunday’s animal adoption event is just the next logical step”, said Sheriff Schiff. “It’s not all about investigating animal cruelty and making arrests”, he said. The Sheriff’s Office and Catskill Animal Rescue will be at the Catskill Coffee Lodge located at 28 Cottage St. in Roscoe, NY from 11 am. until 2 pm.
