POUGHKEEPSIE – IBM laid out its plans for a $2.5 billion quantum computing center at its Town of Poughkeepsie campus during Wednesday’s session of the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency.
Big Blue is seeking a sales tax exemption on building materials and a 30-year payment in lieu of taxes on the 300,000 square foot facility.
Attorney Meredith Black said the Poughkeepsie site is the perfect location for the project.
“With IBM anchoring its chip manufacturing in Albany, research and development in Yorktown, headquarters in Armonk, and a campus with an infrastructure conveniently centralized, the IBM Poughkeepsie campus offers a unique opportunity to leverage existing infrastructure and redefine and stored IBM property,” she said.
For it to move forward, it must receive local approvals including from the town board. Town Superintendent Rebecca Edwards told the IDA Board that she just learned of the when Wednesday’s meeting agenda was released and the board has had no discussion about the proposal.
The IDA board tabled discussion on the proposal pending receipt of a feasibility and reasonability report.
