MIDDLETOWN – The two days of heavy rains have filled municipal reservoirs to levels that had not been seen for months.
In Middletown DPW Commissioner Jacob Tawill said the three reservoirs rose by over a foot.
“We received in the two days, from Sunday 10 o’clock, just before midnight, until this morning (Tuesday), we received 6.64 inches. That’s a huge amount of rain. In the last few months, we have been in a deficit. We got a couple of inches when the average month is about five inches, we only got two inches. Now we got a huge amount,” he said.
The Monhegan Reservoir was up eight inches, the Highland Reservoir was up five inches, and the Shawangunk Reservoir was up by four inches following this latest rain event.
