ELLENVILLE – Ellenville Regional Hospital and the Westchester Medical Center Health Network are expanding outpatient surgical care at the hospital starting this month.

Dr. Jamal Mahdavian, who is a board-certified general and trauma surgeon, will offer local consultations and perform same-day procedures, bringing expert care closer to home. If the surgery cannot be performed in Ellenville, he will arrange for the procedure to be done at Health Alliance in Kingston, which is part of the network.

Ellenville Regional CEO Steve Kelley says adding him to the services already provided will benefit the community.

“We have not had a general surgeon here for a number of years. So this is a big pickup for us. It means that people in our community don’t have to travel somewhere else to have access to a general surgeon,” Kelley said.

In recent months, the hospital has dramatically expanded services.

“We’re on the move. We’ve got a new MRI. We have the new Health Mobile to project our population health services into the community. We have a new general surgeon, and we have a new urgent care. So we’re doing a lot of new stuff here,” Kelley said.
