NEWBURGH – The increase in gun violence in the City of Newburgh in recent days has officials concerned.
The latest shootings have occurred in the area of Mullins Apartments.
Councilman Rob McLymore, who is a Wallkill Town Police lieutenant, said Newburgh crimefighting must be proactive, not reactive.
“We can’t allow our community to be turned into a battleground, and our homes should be a place of safety, security and comfort, and we shouldn’t be plagued and tormented by gun violence,” he said. “So, this is becoming an epidemic that needs to be eliminated right away, and we need to go into action as far as doing whatever is necessary to enforce laws against the gun violence in our community.”
Police must analyze the patterns, the times and days of the week, that most of the gun violence happens, he said.
McLymore said police need to get back into the community, shake hands, and speak to residents
