NEWBURGH – Talk in Albany of holding off on approving new electricity-hog data centers statewide would not be the appropriate policy. That assessment comes from Daniel Depew, CEO and executive director of the Construction Contractors Association of the Hudson Valley.
He says the governor may better modify new proposals to fit individual areas of the state and what their grids can accommodate.
“We think it’s wise for the governor to either tweak the proposed legislation or maybe try to find some way to have an amendment to allow projects like that to go forward, while at the same time, the state should have a laser focus on reducing data centers in areas where it is bad for the environment, reduce data center construction is done in a way that doesn’t utilize the best technology,” he said.
And importantly, Depew says, those projects should use union labor and/or project labor agreements.
