ALBANY – Beginning July 4th, the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Shuttle will run seven days a week. It has been operating Mondays through Fridays connecting people on the west side of the Hudson River to the Metro-North train station in Beacon.
The bus service across the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge will be timed to connect with commuter trains stops.
State officials said the expanded service grows on the ridership that has more than doubled over the past year.
That increase can be attributed, in part, to the termination of the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry service early this year.
“We’ve been fighting for years for better West-of-Hudson transit options, and this expanded service makes real progress toward the transit system our community deserve – one that is faster, cheaper and better equipped to handle the needs of our growing community,” said Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18).
The expanded service comes from recommendations from the governor’s West-of-Hudson Transit Study she commissioned earlier this year.
The Newburgh-Beacon Shuttle currently offers 65 trips each weekday, up from 41 last year, and connects with at least 54 Metro-North trains each weekday, up from 25 last year.
The new weekend and holiday service will connect to 27 trains.
